Prosecutions for assaults against emergency service staff in the NHS have increased five-fold since 2005, according to new figures and reported by the Press Association
“Court proceedings rose from 57 to 309 under the Emergency Workers (Scotland) Act, which was extended in 2007.” according to the report.
We take great pride in our NHS and regularly take full collective credit as a nation for it. But if we as a society are prepared to take the credit we have to take full collective responsibility for the broken bits too.
These figures are a national disgrace and it begs the question – do we deserve the NHS?

The NHS Confederation, which represents NHS trusts, said cuts in local authority budgets will mean reduced care and services for the elderly and vulnerable reports Channel 4 News
“Nigel Edwards, the acting head of the NHS Confederation, said that while they welcomed the £2 billion allocated for social care in the Comprehensive Spending Review, there was still enormous pressure on local authorities. Central Government support for councils in England will be reduced by 27 per cent over the next four years.”
